I work with you to structure, refine, and polish your writing at any stage.
I offer four levels of editing:
My editing services will help fiction and nonfiction authors, companies, and other writers make sure they're communicating as well as possible.
Developmental editing is big-picture editing. I evaluate how the story works as a whole in terms of character development, plot, point of view, pacing, dialogue, and chronology. For nonfiction, I also consider how well the writing conveys your themes or topics and the overall organization of the piece. You will receive a manuscript review explaining my suggested changes and overall feedback as well as comments in the document itself, but not changes to specific lines. This service is most useful for books.
Line editing happens at the paragraph and sentence level. I edit for clarity, rhythm, accuracy, and transitions. I note shifts in tone and wordiness. I will provide suggestions in your document for order of information and adding or removing text. Line editing is often confused with copy editing, and indeed there is overlap. Line editing is a more comprehensive service that includes copy editing changes. This service is useful for books, academic papers, and websites.
Copy editing happens at the sentence and word level. During this process, I’ll look at word choice, use of formatting, and consistency. I will correct syntactic and grammatical errors, punctuation, and repetition. You will receive a marked-up copy of your document with changes made. This service is useful for books, academic papers, and websites.
Proofreading happens at the word level. I will spot misspellings or incorrect word uses, punctuation errors, and formatting errors. You will receive a marked-up copy of your piece. This service is useful for books, academic papers, and websites.
I charge a flat hourly rate. I’ll give you an estimated project cost after learning about your needs. I won’t charge you more than that, even if I spend more time on it.
Augustin copyedited and proofread my debut novel, a literary action adventure/psychological thriller. He made his edits with care and precision, never detracting from the story, only improving. He didn't meet his deadlines... because he was always early! Augustin allows open communication and is happy to answer any and all questions you might have about his choices. He is a grammar expert and a sentence structure maven. I would recommend Augustin for any and all of your writing needs.
- Bryon Cahill, I Am Marcus Fox
Augustin helped me with a developmental edit of my book. Their comments on my manuscript were comprehensive and invaluable. Besides fixing contradictions, plotholes, and areas that I needed to work on, I gained new insight into my book and was able to improve it, feel more confident in it, and learn the next steps I needed to grow as a writer.

It’s ironic that I can’t truly put into words how much I appreciate having Augustin as an editor. No matter the topic, if you’re looking to communicate succinctly, effectively, and with style, Clarify Editing and Augustin are your solution. I’ve worked with Augustin on what feels like dozens of projects editing my own work, that of others, and his own original writing. The constant in all of these projects is Augustin’s commitment to excellent copy. But what you’ll remember more than anything is his ability to understand what actually makes a specific topic, an article, or a whole business special, and how he translates that understanding into content that connects deeply with the target audience.
I’ve worked with Augustin on editing for some of the most dense technical topics in digital marketing, as well as those that require warmth, empathy, and creativity to be effective. He handles both ends of that spectrum incredibly well.
